Jermy DNA Results

The table below present the results from the Jermy DNA Project.

What does the Table mean?

The 25 Y-chromosome markers that can been tested are shown at the top of the table. Each cell contains the number of allele repeats at each marker position for each person. The individual values in each of the cells have no special significance; what is important is the similarity of the pattern of numbers found in one row compared to the other rows.

Although only eight samples have been tested the results show that four of the participants (from Group 2) are related; there being a single mutation at DYS#439. Comparing these four 12-marker profiles with the 25-marker profile from Group 3 shows two single mutations at DYS#439 and DYS#389ii. It is possible that this participant is also related to the previous four, although the additional information provided by the extra 13 markers may complicate this issue. It is clear that the Y-chromosome profile of the first participant, Colin Jermy (the Project Coordinator) is completely different from all the other profiles; as indeed are the profiles from the participants in Groups 4 and 5. It is clear that there is a need for more analyses to be carried out before any meaningful conclusions can be drawn.
